Psychological Vulnerability Associated With Stress Coping Strategies in Japanese University Athletes

This study examined the stress coping strategies of athletes with high psychological vulnerability. The participants were 487 university (mean age = 19.8 years, SD 0.88, 153 women). Data collected using Vulnerability Scale for University Athletes and General Coping Questionnaire analyzed by conducting a multivariate analysis variance. results showed significant relationships between vulnerability ( r .11−.39). was most strongly related to emotional support seeking aspect emotion-oriented .39). There no difference in cognitive reinterpretation .07). had stronger relationship than problem-oriented coping, (vs. low) significantly higher emotion-oriented-coping scores. These suggest that vulnerable need be provided appropriate cope stressful situations, as they rely heavily on management strategy focusing emotion regulation.
